Citrus County Citizens Academy Recognizes Spring 2017 Graduates

The 2017 Spring Citizens Academy Graduation Event was held in the Board of County Commissioners Chambers at the Citrus County Courthouse on Thursday, May 18. In attendance were Commissioner Ron Kitchen and County Administrator Randy Oliver, who both congratulated the participants and thanked them for spending time learning more about local government. Graduates recognized at the event were: Larry Brincefield, Ruth Brincefield, Curt Fennema, Judy Fennema, Mary Ford, Chaya Gil, Beverly Harris, John Kohan, Sue LaPorte, Diane Nally, Susan Neitzel, Duane Ready, Janice Ready, Madelyn Robinson, Michael Schulman, Darlene Spencer, Cindy Stetz, Bill Weaver, Judy Weaver and Marilyn Winograd.

The Citrus County Citizens’ Academy is an interactive program that focuses on educating citizens about the County’s governmental operations. Elected officials, Constitutional Officers, Department Directors and county staff host unique and informative sessions designed to give a hands-on inside look into county government operations. Participants learn about our local government, the community in which we live, and at the end of the twelve sessions, have made new friends, and most of all gained knowledge to be great ambassadors within our community.

FREE First Time Home-buyer's Certification to be Offered

Citrus County Housing Services is offering a free First Time Homebuyer’s class which is being conducted by the University of Florida/IFAS Extension Citrus County office. Participants, who attend the entire program, will receive a Certificate of Completion which is valid for two (2) years and is required for first time homebuyer assistance programs.

These classes are HUD approved and encompass the entire home buying process, including preparing your credit and finances, shopping for a home, home inspection, fair housing, available loan products, loan pre-approval, and closing.

These sessions are funded by the State Housing Initiatives Partnership Program (SHIP). There is no charge to attend these classes, but you must reserve a seat. Child care is not available.

The classes will be held at UF/IFAS Extension Citrus County office located at 3650 W Sovereign Path Lecanto, FL at the following dates and times:

§ June 8, 2017 – 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.

§ June 15, 2017 – 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.

§ June 22, 2017 – 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.

§ June 29, 2017 – 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.

BOCC Proclaims May as Mental Health Awareness Month in Citrus County

The Citrus County Board of County Commissioners presented a Proclamation at their regular meeting on May 9, 2017 proclaiming the month of May as Mental Health Awareness Month in Citrus County.

The complex mental health needs of our citizens are fundamental to the future of our community. The need for comprehensive, coordinated mental health services for our citizens places upon our community a critical responsibility.

Mental Health Court is an essential component of our justice system which saves vast criminal justice resources. Through its unique approach in serving our citizens the court effectively cares for the mental health needs of our community.

The Board of County Commissioners recognizes the month of May as Mental Health Awareness Month in Citrus County, and calls the observance to the attention of all citizens.
