County Sandbag Sites Open September 7 and 8

Sandbagging sites will be open Thursday, September 7 and Friday, September 8, from 8:00 am until 6:00 p.m.  Additional times and dates will be announced as needed.

The locations are as follows:

AREA 1:

4508 S. Grandmarch Ave. Homosassa

(Near Grover Cleveland Blvd.)

AREA 5:

          7490 W. Gulf to Lake Hwy. Crystal River

          (Near Dan’s Clam Stand – on opposite side of road)

***There is a limit of 25 bags per vehicle***

If you have any questions, please feel free to contact the Road maintenance Office at 527-7610.

Donation Plea For Taking Care of our Communities Homeless and Stray Animals

Due to the impending impact of Hurricane Irma on Citrus County the Animal Shelter (Citrus County Animal Services) is anticipating an influx of homeless and stray animals. Additional donations of critical items will be needed to care for animals and their comfort during the storm and during recovery efforts. Below is a list of items needed:

· Towels, blankets, wash cloths, and bath mats

· Clorox bleach

· Dawn Dish soap

· Paper Towels

· Mini fridge for medications for sick animals in isolation ward

· Baby scale for our isolation ward to monitor weights

· Canned cat food

Donations can be dropped off at the Animal Shelter, 4030 S. Airport Rd. Inverness 34450. For more information on how you can help call the Animal Shelter office at 352-746-8400.

Commissioners participate in Operation Welcome Home 10th Anniversary

On Saturday, August 26 at the Homosassa Elks Club in Homosassa, Board of County Commissioners Ron Kitchen and Jimmie T. Smith presented plaques to three returning service members; Cpt. Peter Reins, USA, Sgt. Eric Jacobs, USA, and Sgt. Jacob Skiff, USA. Their families were on hand and shown an outpouring of appreciation by attendees of the most recent Operation Welcome Home ceremony which also served as the program’s 10th anniversary celebration. Founding member Barbara Mills was recognized during the event and received a standing ovation for all her work in welcoming home our Citrus County service men and women for the past decade through Operation Welcome Home.
