The Citrus County Board of County Commissioners presented a Proclamation to representatives of the Citrus County Sheriff’s Office, at their regular meeting on October 10, 2017, proclaiming the month of October 2017 as Citrus County Crime Prevention Month.

The vitality of our county depends on how safe we keep our homes, neighborhoods, schools, workplaces, and communities. The Citrus County Sheriff’s Office is committed to Intelligence Led Policing, Community-Oriented Policing and crime prevention to develop partnerships with people and quickly respond to the needs of the public.

Crime prevention initiatives must include and go beyond self-protection and security to promote collaborative efforts to make neighborhoods safer and develop positive educational and recreational opportunities for young people. Adults must invest time, resources, and policy support in effective prevention and intervention strategies, and teens must be engaged in driving crime from their communities. Effective crime prevention programs excel because of partnerships among law enforcement, other government agencies, civic groups, schools, faith communities, businesses, and individuals as they help to nurture communal responsibility and instill pride.

The Board of County Commissioners of Citrus County proclaims the month of October, 2017 as “Crime Prevention Month” in Citrus County and urges all citizens, government agencies, public and private institutions, and business to invest in the power of Prevention and work together for the common good.
