Citrus County Releases Procedures for Tourism Grant Funding Opportunities

The Citrus County Tourist Development Council (TDC) announced today the new procedures for requesting tourism related funding grants.There are three different grant categories available: Capital Improvement Projects, Special Project/Events and Collateral Materials. All funding will be allocated from the Tourist Development Tax Budget to ensure that funding is available for contribution for financial assistance for programs that generate increased tourism activity within Citrus County.

The goals of the program are:

· Increase overnight stays in Citrus County

· Promote a positive image and increased visibility of the area’s attractions

· Increase expenditures by visitors to Citrus County

· Enhance the quality of existing infrastructure and encourage new economic development

· Educate visitors to the different areas in the County.

Funding is available for Capital Improvement Projects located within Citrus County and serve to establish new or refurbish existing facilities or infrastructures that are publicly owned and operated or owned and operated by not-for-profit organizations and open to the public for recreational activities. This would include cultural events and performances scheduled in Citrus County whose primary goal and purpose is to bring substantial numbers of tourists/visitors to the County, thereby promoting overnight hotel stays within the County. The Board of County Commissioners (BOCC) may allocate an annual allotment of Tourism Development Tax Revenue to the Reserve Fund to facilitate Capital Projects.

Capital Improvement Project grants will be considered once each year:
    January - Applicant Submittal Period Opens
    February 26 - Applicant Submittal Period Ends
    March 23- Application Presentation to the Tourist Development Council
    April 13- Grant Selection and Budget Allocation

TDC offers a Special Project/Event Grant program to organizations to promote special events/projects to generate overnight stays in Citrus County, thereby impacting the lodging industry. A Special Event is defined as any activity, service, venue or event intended to attract overnight visitors to Citrus County. This Special Project/Event Grant is to provide funding to advertise and promote events to out of county markets. The Grant funds are intended to supplement the organization’s budget and are restricted in their use for marketing, advertisement, and promotional materials.

Applications for Special Project/Events will be considered twice each year:
    December - Public Notification of Available Applications
    January - Applicant Submittal Period Opens
    February 26 - Applicant Submittal Period Ends
    March 23 - Application Presentation to the Tourist Development Council
    April 13- Grant Selection and Budget Allocation
    May - Public Notification of Available Applications
    June 1 - Applicant Submittal Period Opens
    July 22- Applicant Submittal Period Ends
    August 10 - Application Presentation to the Tourist Development Council
    September 14- Grant Selection and Budget Allocation

The purpose of the TDC Collateral Materials Grant is to assist organizations in Citrus County by providing funding awards for program dollars to make our area more appealing to visitors who are spending the night in Citrus County. This grant leverages TDC resources and extends the marketing for Citrus County. The application submittal dates for Collateral Materials are the same as for Special Project/Events and will be considered twice each year.
