Unlicensed Contractors

Category: Press Releases       Posted By: Denise Gallagher       Year: 2016

During recovery from Hurricane Hermine Citrus County Government is reminding citizens that hiring an unlicensed contractor is not safe and it is against the law. We recognize that it is tempting to try and get repairs made as quickly as possible after a storm but we are urging residents not to be lured by unlicensed contractors. All contractors who work in Citrus County are required to be licensed and insured. The county’s mission is to provide our citizens with quality workmanship done by licensed contractors who have experience, education and good moral character.

The hazards of hiring an unlicensed contractor are many. They do not have general liability or worker compensation insurance. Your homeowner’s insurance policy will not cover work done by unlicensed contractors and substandard workmanship becomes your responsibility. It is also important to note there is no such thing as a “Handyman License” in Citrus County.
