Health Talk at the Library

The Friends of the Lakes Region Library invite the public to their annual meeting on Tuesday, January 28th at 2:00PM at the Lakes Region branch of the Citrus County Library System for a special health discussion. Katie Lucas, senior placement specialist at Royal Dalton House Assisted Living and Memory Care, will explain how individuals can prepare important personal information in a way that will be easily accessible to family in the event of an unforeseen health emergency. This free informational session will follow a brief installation of officers. Refreshments will be served. Fifth Annual Community Leadership Summit a Success

The fifth annual Community Leadership Summit took place Friday, January 17, 2020 at the College of Central Florida, Citrus Campus in Lecanto. Commissioner and Chairman Brian Coleman presided over the collaborative event that brought together the County Commission, Citrus County School Board, City of Crystal River Council and City of Inverness Council.

This full day event lends itself to relationship building and provides an opportunity for community leaders to discuss, plan and prioritize mutual programs, projects and issues facing Citrus County while looking to the future. 

Free Mulch Now Available at Landfill

The Division of Solid Waste management has just finished processing yard waste into reusable mulch which is now available free of charge to Citrus County residents while supplies last.

Two types of mulch are available:

Fine-grade - suitable for top dressing plants / shrubs and incorporating into composts / potting soils and useful for top-dressing lawns.

Coarse-grade - suitable for retarding weed growth and for driveways / garden paths, as it drains quickly.

Loading options for mulch:

-self-loading mulch is available during all hours of Landfill operation.

-Customers requesting vehicles and/or trailers to be machine loaded by county staff is available

-Tuesday through Friday between 9:00 a.m. and 10:00 a.m. and Saturday from 8:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.

-Must have tarp to cover material and entrance ticket from the Scale house.

There are many uses for yard waste processed into landscaping mulch, but here are a few examples:

-Driveways

-Trails & paths

-Temporary parking lots

-Dust control

-Prevents erosion of soil from heavy rains

-Reduce evaporation of soil moisture during dry periods

-Cool the soil during hot summer months

-Protect trees from injury by mechanical equipment

-Reduce soil compaction

Hernando Citrus Metropolitan Planning Organization December Meeting

The Hernando/Citrus Metropolitan Planning Organization met on December 4, 2019 in a public meeting at the Lecanto Government Center, 3600 W. Sovereign Path, Room 166, Lecanto FL. The points of interest from the meeting are below:

•             The Hernando/Citrus Metropolitan Planning Organization adopted the 2045 Long Range Transportation Plan which is one of its primary duties under Federal and State regulations

•             The MPO Board approved an Interlocal Agreement for the Traffic Count Program with Citrus County

•             The MPO Board approved a consultant work scope with Tindale Oliver and Associates to perform the 2020 Hernando County Traffic Counts

•             The MPO Board approved the Federal Transit Authority (FTA) 5305(d) Allocation for FY 2020 which included the Public Transportation Grant Agreement, Unified Planning Work Program Amendment, Transportation Improvement Plan Modification, and Memorandum of Agreement between the MPO, Hernando and Citrus Counties

•             The MPO reappointed Mr. John Wade, to the Citizens Advisory Committee (CAC) to fill the position for a Citrus County resident representative

The next MPO meeting is scheduled for Thursday, February 13, 2020, at 1:30 pm in the Hernando County Government Center, John Law Ayers County Commission Chambers, 20 N Main Street, Rm 160, Brooksville, FL

Seeking applications for seat on the Beverly Hills Advisory Council

The Citrus County Board of County Commissioners is seeking applications for the Beverly Hills Advisory Council.  This Advisory Council is seeking two qualified regular members to fill the two-year terms that will expire on January 31, 2022. 

Eligible applicants must reside full time and own property within the boundaries of the Beverly Hills Municipal Service Benefit Unit as approved by the Board of County Commissioners.

The Beverly Hills Advisory Council meets the second Monday of every month at 10:00am at the Beverly Hills Civic Center, located at One Civic Circle in Beverly Hills. The purpose of this board is to provide street lighting and landscaping services for the Beverly Hills area.
