Hearing Impaired:

Sign Language interpreting

Requests for a sign language interpreter should be made fourteen (14) days in advance. The County currently employs the services of CHIPS (Citrus Hearing Impaired Program Services) to provide sign language interpreter(s).

Nationally endorsed acronym for all text telephones. TTY - Teletypewriter, TDD - Telecommunications Device for the Deaf, TT - Text Telephone and TDI - Telecommunications for the Deaf, Inc. The BOCC County phone listing has a listing of all County TTY phone numbers. They are listed within the County Phone Listing as TDD Numbers.

Real Time Transcription

Requests for Real Time Transcription should be made a minimum of forty-eight (48) hours prior to the proceedings. Transcription will be made for viewing the text on the reporter’s lap top computer screen. Requests for large screen viewing from a projection system shall be made with as much advance notice as possible. The County currently employs the services of Joy Hayes & Associates to provide Real Time Transcription.

Vision Impaired:

Braille or Large Print

Requests for standard text documents to be made available in Braille or Large Print should be made seven (7) to fourteen (14) days in advance. Large Print and Braille pages are shipped typically “Free Matter for the Blind” which can take five (5) to ten (10) business days. All other shipping must be at citizen’s request and expense. Braille and Large Print services may be provided by the County or through companies similar to ESC-20, Education Service Center.

Audio

Requests for document conversion to an audio format should be made seven (7) to fourteen (14) days in advance. Audio services are shipped typically "Free Matter for the Blind" which can take five (5) to ten (10) business days. All other shipping must be at citizen’s request and expense. Audio services may be provided by the County or through companies similar to ORION SERVICES. Typical audio format is WAV and/or MP3 installed on a CD for use in a Personal Computer.
