Artificial Reefs

Citrus County Aquatic Services has been establishing permitted Artificial Reef sites in the County since 1985. Since the inception there have been 10 deployments and they have become very well established sites.

Citrus County is fortunate to have several access points to the artificial reef sites. Some locations are the Barge Canal, Fort Island Gulf Beach, Fort Island Trail Park, and MacRae’s, which is located in Homosassa.

The deployments have consisted of Lincoln logs, culverts, concrete poles, boulders and bridge material.
