Register Now for Final Week of Virtual Summer Camp Color Rush

Citrus County Parks and Recreation is set to host its final art camp session as planned, only now they will be virtual!

Park staff has recently completed training, through an online summit, with parks and recreation staff from around the country, on how to host a virtual summer camp. “The training has energized us and we are looking forward to hosting a complete art camp to teach kids drawing, painting, cartooning and crafts. The final camp session will also include games, online kids’ trivia, hula hoop contests, dance-offs, and even a campfire with skits and singalongs,” said Recreation Program Specialist Andrea Cuccaro. “We’re enthusiastic that this will be a valuable experience, with a little silliness and fun mixed in, for kids who love art and games,” she concluded.

What participants will need: A tablet or computer complete with a microphone and camera. Campers will join online video chats between 9am and 4pm with multiple breaks throughout each day of camp.

What’s being offered: Camp Color Rush is a 5-day summer art camp, Monday through Friday during the following final week: August 3- August 8, 2020 (register by July 20th) Camp is offered for boys and girls ages eleven to fourteen at $50 per child.

There will be a limit of ten campers. Parents are invited to a virtual meeting the week prior to each camp session to go over rules, safety waiver, schedule, and instructions for their children on how to join the video chats. Parents will be responsible to turn in signed waivers for campers and pick up supplies needed for camp at the Parks and Recreation main office the week before the camp session begins.

“We’re excited to put on virtual camp, we’ve ordered really cool art supplies, toys and games. With social distancing guidelines remaining in effect this summer, it seemed like the right move at the right time,” said Manny Coimbre, Citrus County Sports and Event Coordinator. “This is going to be a lot of fun for kids to create art at home while making friends online,” he added.
