Citrus County Parks and Recreation PLAY Program Cheerleading for 3 to 5 Year Olds

On Monday, October 19, 2020, Citrus County Parks and Recreation opened registration for their
Cheerleading P.L.A.Y. program (Preparing Little Athletes Youth program). The PLAY program is
specifically designed for children between the ages of three and five years old, who may not quite
be ready for organized sports leagues, to teach some game basics. Each session lasts for six weeks
with one hour classes once per week.

Sessions will be from 5:30pm to 6:30pm on Thursday, November 12 and Tuesday November 17, Tuesday,
December 1, 8, 15, with the final session Thursday, December 17, 2020 at Homosassa Area Recreation
Park located at 4210 South Grandmarch Avenue in Homosassa. The total program cost will be $45,
which includes classes, a t-shirt, and pom-poms. Equipment will not be shared between children in
this session. Parents may register their children online at:
apm.activecommunities.com/citruscountyparks.

Program that will include 100% parent participation with their young athlete. Parental involvement
will be required in every drill, and parents will be required to wear a mask, while cheerleaders
will not. Staff will focus on fundamentals of the sport that parents and young athletes can work on
together and are taking this approach to reduce the amount of contact participants have with one
another.

“We brought back the P.L.A.Y. cheerleading program last year and the participants had a lot of
fun,” said Recreation Program Specialist and Instructor Andrea Cuccaro. “I was part of a
cheerleading team as a young kid and enjoy having the opportunity to lead this program in Citrus
County”.
