Citrus County Animal Shelter Suspends Community Cat Program

Citrus County Animal Shelter Suspends Community Cat Program

As the cases of COVID-19 once again increase in our state and country, we are taking extra precautions at Citrus County Animal Service (CCAS) to ensure the safety of our staff, visitors, and animal guests. At this time, we have made the decision to temporarily suspend our Community Cat Trap-Neuter-Vaccinate Return (TNVR) program. Effective immediately, we are unable to take in community cats at the shelter.

It is recommending that healthy cats found outside are left alone until we are able to start providing services again. Nationally only 2% of cats are picked up by their owners when they end up in shelters, but are up to 13 times more likely to make it home when allowed to remain in the community. Please allow these cats the best chance of finding their way home!

A special thanks to our volunteers, fosters, and community partners who support Animal Services, the shelter and the TNVR program each spring. If you have any questions or c  ncerns during the program suspension, we are here to help, please call the shelter at, 352-746-8400.
