Students Challenged to Test for Toilet Leaks

Citrus County Utilities (CCU) is kicking off its annual Toilet Leak Detection Classroom Challenge.
Each year, hundreds of third-, fourth-, and fifth-grade students use dye tablets to test their home
toilets. The event celebrates the United States Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) “We’re for
Water” initiative. According to EPA WaterSense, fixing one leaky toilet can save up to 200 gallons
a day.

CCU sends all project supplies directly to the school, including dye tablets, worksheets, and
pencils. Classes also receive fun shower timers after results are submitted. Teachers interested in
participating should email Debra.Burden@citrusbocc.com by Friday, April 5, 2024, with the school
and teacher name, grade level, and number of students.
