Commissioners Determine 2024 Goals at Strategic Planning Session

The Citrus County Board of County Commissioners (BOCC) held a Strategic Planning Retreat on
Thursday, January 18, 2024 at the Lecanto Government Building. The goal-setting session provided
opportunities for commissioners to discuss, plan and prioritize programs, projects, and issues
facing Citrus County.
Individual commissioner priorities for 2024 were discussed at length and prioritized based on group
consensus. Next steps forward over the coming weeks include the staff providing this Board with
targets for action and a strategic path to completion on the following goals:
•  Conduct space needs analysis
•  Conduct master corridor study
•  Prepare 5-year financial analysis
•  Implement development forecast tool
•  Evaluate implementation of discretionary sales tax
•  Review Land Development Code protections
In addition, the board expressed interest in pursuing funding for projects during the 2024/2025
legislative session, including:
-  Workforce training
-  Evacuation route widening (CR-491)
-  Widening US-41 to SR-200
-  Aquatic restoration projects (TOO FAR, Save Crystal River, Homosassa River Alliance)
-  Halls River Multi-Use Path construction

Citizens are welcome to comment on these priorities at the next regular BOCC meeting on Monday,
January 22ⁿᵈ (change in date to accommodate commissioners’ travel and participation in the state’s
Legislative Days next week), at the Citrus County Courthouse, 110 N. Apopka Ave., Inverness, FL.
